Biography

I joined the Institute for Antiviral Research in the Department of Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University in 2008. Prior to joining USU, I was employed in the Research and Development department at Intervet Inc. (now Merck Animal Health), a global leader in the discovery, development, and manufacture of veterinary medicines. During the twelve years that I worked at Intervet I completed proprietary research in the area of vaccine development.

Teaching Interests

CLASSES I TEACH: ADVS 3200 DSC Ethical Issues in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology: Critical evaluation of ethical issues of genetic engineering in biotechnology, including biological engineering and cloning of plants, animals, and humans. Presents basic science of genetic engineering and biotechnology. Spring Semester, 3 credits. VM-7536, Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology The principles and applications of infectious diseases of animals are learned using a combination of lectures and laboratory sessions. The lectures will focus on basic principles of infectious disease. The laboratory periods will focus on diagnostic principles and techniques; basics of handling infectious organisms; and the use of clinical microbiology in approach to clinical cases.4 credits Fall semester. VM 7596, Leadership Practicum In the course, students will learn to examine how their leadership style, temperament, strengths and mindset influence their own goals and leadership approach. Different leadership models will be explored to learn how to accommodate a constantly changing environment; to think about the ethical responsibility of leadership; and to learn how leaders and participants mutually shape the environment of a practice, an organization or a community. 1 credit Spring semester

Research Interests

Research interests • Virology, immunology, vaccines and antiviral chemotherapy • Animal models of influenza virus infections • Treatment and prevention of influenza virus infections by antivirals and vaccines
