Job Opportunities

Recent statistics show there are more job openings available nationally for individuals trained in the agricultural sciences than there are graduates to fill them. Graduates are choosing careers in all of the following areas:

  • Animal and basic science research
  • Education
  • Private or family ranching
  • Farm, ranch, and feedlot management
  • Cooperative Extension
  • Banking (management specialists and loan appraisers)
  • Food inspection, sanitation, packing, buying, and grading services
  • Feed and animal health product sales
  • Artificial insemination and embryo transfer industry
  • Farm management consulting
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • International agriculture

 

Continuing Education

Approximately 40% of our Animal and Dairy Science undergraduates continue their education at graduate schools.

85% of the students completing a degree in Bioveterinary Science attend veterinary schools.

 

Other Options

Only one in five of our graduates takes a job in production agriculture. The other four find jobs in support industries. Undergraduate students in Animal and Dairy Science pursue careers in:

  • research
  • molecular genetics
  • extension
  • communications
  • international work
