The Skaggs Nutrition Laboratory was completed in 1983 using funds donated by the Skaggs family. The building is located on the north USU campus. Several scientists and associated graduate students utilize the facility with ruminant nutritional research emphasized. The lab is divided into various areas depending on the particular research: rumen microbiology; energy, protein and mineral analysis; forage analysis; rumen acid production; and in situ work. It is equipped with gas chromatographs, an auto analyzer, Kjeldahl and Hack digestion equipment, fermenters, incubators, fiber analysis equipment, an ether extract digester, a bomb calorimeter, centrifuges, and a walk in cooler and freezer. The facility also contains post doctorate and graduate student offices and a conference room/classroom.
